BOLT’S GULLY CREEPA AND STEELE’S ORCHESTRA IGNITES TORONTO ’S JAMAICAN CANADIAN CENTER (JCA).

The fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, graced a full to capacity crowd at the JCA on June 11th, where fans and the media waited anxiously to celebrate with him. Billed as, “Late Night with Bolt”, the event started promptly at 8:00 pm and with the performances scheduled for the evening, all who were able to get tickets knew it was going to be a special night.

The sound system played the latest reggae and dancehall favorites, and the stories of Bolt’s historic runs were retold in the form of hilarious skits from some of Canada ’s premier West Indian actors and writers, and the night progressed with grace.

At approximately 10:30 pm, Steele the musical headliner for the night was called to the stage. A huge applause went out as he was introduced, but this time there was no intro fan-fare from his backing band the competent Mountain Edge Band.

Steele walked on stage with his usual big smile, took a bow, and then turned his back to his fans. He had a plan.

Steele slowly held up the drum stick he had now transformed into a conductor’s wand, and with instructions, the band responded immediately with precision. The Steele orchestra had begun.

For the next three and a half minutes the JCA was captivated by this creative brother and when he was done, all attending “Late Night with Bolt” were on there feet.

Steele continued to blaze with songs such as The Harder They Come, Let’s Stay Together, and Take a Bow performed by Steele’s protégé Mandy Woods. He left the stage feeling confident that he had prepared the way for the man of the hour.

Just then Usain Bolt’s arrival was announced and the JCA once again went into frenzy. Fans scrambled to any area they could to get a glimpse or photo of the man who had made Jamaica proud and set the world ablaze.

Bolt answered questions from Mc Allan Jones and then prepared himself for the highlight of the night. Bolt was ready to do the Gully Creepa dance. DJ Spex fired up Elephant Man’s song, Nuh Linga, and Bolt demonstrated his expertise of the very popular dance. It was a delight for all to see.

Late night with Bolt was a huge hit.
